W3 - Smart Games Break Out: The Global Scene
Tuesday, May 13, 2003, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Room: 406AB
Out of the simulation genre has come a number of games designed to engage gamers in fixing, training, and learning. Smart Games are the logical result of the transfer of ideas and technology that has toggled between the entertainment, military, and academic communities over the past 20 years. This session will bring together a group of committed businesspeople from around the world and ask them to address their success on the front lines of Smart Games: hear how games can train first responders in a bio-terrorism attack, how a MMOL game in Korea can be built to be both fun and educational, find out what’s behind the funding initiatives of one the world’s largest corporations, and hear first hand how the field of computer-generated agents for use in e- Commerce and adaptive training environments is progressing. Walk away from this session with an understanding of how games are being used for training and education within the medical, academic, and business sectors. See how Smart Games are becoming a growing niche, and learn how you can participate in its growth.
